All Spectra products are originated from Korea. Not only it’s the leading breast pump in Korea, but also the leading breast pump in the many other countries worldwide.

Mothers usually have a hard time choosing between Spectra S1 and Spectra S2 models that suits them the best. The Spectra brand is owned and operated by mothers and registered nurses. Spectra is committed to designing their breast pumps to be a comfortable and wonderful breastfeeding journey with your little one.

Spectra S is a hospital grade double/single breast pump.

Both Spectra S1 and Spectra S2 are almost similar. Both basically have the same features. Unlike the S2 model, the S1 comes in with a built-in rechargeable battery. It is portable hence giving you the freedom to pump away from the plugs. Whereas for the S2 model, you need to plug-in for the pump to work. I knew that I wanted a portable, hospital grade double breast pump. I have heard many positive reviews about it long before I even decided to breastfeed my little one.

Either way, both pumps give you the confidence, comfort and near-perfect breastfeeding experience. I had comfort problems with a couple of breast pump that I owned. The flanges did not quite sit comfortably and hence when pumping, it felt quite tight and suctions were horribly strong were not sucking as natural as I expected.

Personally, for me, Spectra S provided me with that. Providing me with comfort, confidence, and flexibility according to the body with what suits me the best. I exclusively breastfeed and power pump at the same time. Nevertheless, since the day I started using the Spectra S1, I’m blown away by how comfortable and similar feeling like breastfeeding my little one when I breast pump with Spectra S1. I felt Spectra S1 really brought that near-perfect breastfeeding experience for me.

Both weighing at only 3 lbs / 1.12kg, The pump works on the quietest motor, making it perfect to be as discreet as possible for a soothing pumping session. It works perfectly for night pumping without having to disrupt my little one’s sleep.

Let me share with you about the breast pump and its parts to help you paint some detailed picture.

Power AC Adapter For Spectra S1 and Spectra S2

Spectra Baby USA – 12 Volt AC Power Adapter Replacement for S1, S2, 9 Plus, or M1 Breast Pumps – Compatibile with US Outlets

Spectra S1 and Spectra S2 use a 12-volt ac adapter. The power cord is compatible with us outlets and is used with a plug converter in other countries.

Massage Mode

Spectra S1 and Spectra S2 massage mode simulate the natural sucking of the baby. Our body reacts to our little ones. It’s mindblowing to think that our body is made for this, and how natural it is for our body to respond to the needs of our baby. Spectra includes that in their pump to mimic what the baby does. It tricks my body as if thinking that my little is suckling and latching on the breast. This process helps to flow and produce milk.

Tubing

Spectra Baby USA – Authentic Replacement Tubing, 1 Count – Compatible with S1, S2, 9 Plus, and M1 Breast Pumps – BPA/DEHP Free

The Spectra tubing is made to not come in contact with our breast milk. This part of the breast pump plays a part in keeping the whole breast pumping process hygienic. I didn’t have to wash or sterilize the tubing because it didn’t come in contact with the breast milk at all. Occasionally, I would just have to wipe down the outer tubing with some simple wipes to clean the dust away.

Flanges / Breast Shields

Spectra Baby USA – Authentic Breast Flange, Wide Neck Breastshield – (X-Large / 32mm) (1 FLANGE INCLUDED) – Replacement Part for 9 Plus, S2, S1, M1 Breast Pumps, BPA/DEHP Free

Spectra S1 and S2 use a 24mm size flanges. Fits perfectly for me even for having small size breast. It doesn’t pull and I felt no pain while using the flanges/shield. It has an adequate room for my nipple to expand. The tugging sensation felt almost natural. It really felt perfect as how when I am feeding my little one. The 24mm shields that come with the pump works for most mothers.

Duckbill Valve

Spectra Baby USA – Duckbill Valve Replacement Set, Silicone Valve, White, 2 Count – Compatible with S1, S2, 9 Plus, M1, and DEW 350 Breast Pumps

The duckbill valve is used to prevent contamination due to the backflow. Hence keeping your breast milk not come in contact with your tubing. This part of the breast pump is wear down item. How often I replace the valve depending on how often I used them. At some point of time when I was exclusively expressing to empty my breast milk production after each feeding, I would replace them every 6 to 8 weeks. If you are exclusively expressing, I would suggest you replace the valve every 4 to 5 weeks.

If you are still figuring out when is the right time for you to replace them, the first sign you will notice is always due to the reduction in suction. Look also for membranes that don’t close shut on the valves head. It means that it has lost its suction or it has fallen off. Always decide to replace the valves the moment you see any tears.

Backflow Protector

The protector prevents backflows of the milk from entering the breast pump motor or tubing. This ensures a sanitary milk supply from your body. It simply creates a barrier between the milk and the pump motor.

I have not replaced my backflow protector so far. The pieces are pretty easy to maintain. It doesn’t require to wash after every single use. Just pull apart the protector and membranes after use to allow any moisture or condensation to dry.

Spectra S1 and Spectra S2 Bottles

ORIGINAL SpeCtra Breast Milk Storage Bottle – 5 FL OZ/160ml 2 Pack – Made to fit Spectra Breast Shield or Flange made for SpeCtra Breast Pumps S1, S2, M1, S9. Include 2 Nipples For Bottle(PINK)

The Spectra S1 and Spectra S2 use wide neck bottles. Hence, makes the expression and storage for the milk easy and very convenient. It holds a lot of milk and super easy to wash and clean. I don’t actually use them as actual bottles as I exclusively expressing mostly to empty my milk production after each feeding. The wide neck definitely made my milk transferring to the storage bag easily.

The Spectra wide neck bottles do fit several other brands. To name a few are such as Avent classics, Avent natural, Pumpables, and Mam glass and plastic. You can also use narrow neck bottles like Medela bottles if you use the Spectra wide neck to narrow neck adaptor.

I simply love how the features and how the breast pump operates.

The Cycle Mode can be adjusted to how quickly you want the pump to go. How fast of the suction you want the pump to be set. And you can control the speed per minute.

The Vacuum is the strength of the suction. There are 12 levels in total. Start from really low and go up to what you’re comfortable with. Since I’ve been pumping quite a while now, I’m always the level 5 and it works pretty well for me.

After 30 minutes it shuts down by itself. You can press the start button again to continue if needed. Sometimes when I pump in the middle of the night I had accidentally doze up. The 30 minutes auto shutdown works pretty neatly. The battery life once the pump is fully charged can last about 2 to 3 hours of pumping time. But if you are using it for just several times a day, it can last you for about 2 to 3 days. It’s actually pretty good.

The great thing about it too is how at ease it is made for me to adjust and switch from one mode to another. The cycles and the vacuums can be adjusted to me so well.

And then there are the lights. If you are the type who likes to pump at night it’s perfect because it comes with a 2 level night light settings. I could see the display screen if I need to adjust the modes without needing another source of light. Even when the pump switched off the night light still works. So that has come handy for me that sometimes I would use it to go around the room at night to pick up and thing or two.

As you all know by now that due to it being a sealed closed pump system, you can share it with your friends. It’s a hospital-grade breast pump. It’s made to be hygienic.

I personally feel it helped me to boost more milk when I power pump with Spectra S1. For me to pump up to 3 to 4 times a day, it’s really worth it. The price difference between a Spectra S1 and Spectra S2 is just by 40 dollars. With that extra 40 dollars, you can own a portable, on the go hospital grade breast pump. I believe it will also be a very good purchase for you as it did for me because there’s not much that I can complain about. Coming on to almost two years now, it still works very well and it is still going strong. It is built to last and it is truly worth your every penny and time.

Spectra S1 is a gem.
